G—NEWS (DILI) — The Archbishop of the Metropolitan Diocese of Dili, Virgilio Cardinal do Carmo da Silva, SDB, officially declared the death of Pope Francis, leader of the Roman Apostolic Catholic Church, on Monday (21042025) in Rome.
In the conference room of the Ecclesiastical Chamber of Dili, Dom Virgílio Cardinal do Carmo da Silva said he was saddened by the death of Pope Francis, on Monday (21042025) afternoon Timor Leste time.
“With sadness, at this moment, I would like to confirm to the entire people of Timor Leste, especially the Christians, about the death of Pope Francis. I received a telephone call from Marco Sprizzi, saying that the Pope passed away at 7:35 am Italian time,” Virgilio explained through a press conference.
“This news is true, we are sad and sad, we feel his presence among us. He returned from Timor, he said that my heart is in Timor.
Dom Virgilio also spoke about Pope Francis’ presence in Timor Leste, from September 9-11, 2024, in Timor Leste.
“We feel how Pope Francis’ presence, his love for Timor Leste for three days. As human beings, we are all sad, because we lost a pope, whom we love, died on Easter,” said Bishop Virgilio Cardinal do Carmo da Silva.
In this regard, the Timorese Episcopal Conference also invites all Christians to pray for the Pope’s death.
The supreme leader also on behalf of the Timorese Episcopal Conference, asked all parish priests to hold a special mass for the death of Pope Francis on Tuesday morning.
“Starting tomorrow morning, in all parishes, invite all parish priests tomorrow morning in each parish to offer a special mass for the soul of Pope Francis.
Bishop Virgilio also confirmed that each diocese will hold a special mass for Pope Francis, pending the announcement of the funeral.
